Learning from your patients’ (and their relatives’/friends’) experiences of critical care can identify ways to improve the care you deliver.
Healthtalk is an award-winning website, developed by researchers at the University of Oxford. There are around 25,000 video clips on Healthtalk of people talking about their experiences of more than 75 different health issues.
We funded two modules on experiences of critical care and one on organ donation. This information can help you and your patients understand the experience of being critically ill, by hearing from others who have been in the same situation.
You can also find out what messages people have for health professionals. Within each module is a section where you can find constructive feedback about people’s experiences with their doctors, nurses and consultants.
These are a great free resource for teaching and training on a wide range of topics.
Teaching resources
We also funded the creation of a teaching resource that includes a selection of interviews from the modules on experiences of critical care. These videos have been created to support professionals working in critical care.
Information leaflet for patients
Encourage your patients and their relatives/friends to use this website by advertising Healthtalk within your unit. We have created a brief information leaflet that you can download, print and provide in your relatives’ room.
