Benchmarking

Benchmarking defines a standard or reference by which others can be measured or judged.

Benchmarking projects offer the opportunity to use our national clinical audit data, such as the Case Mix Programme Database, to provide this standard by which external data, for example from other international providers, can be compared.

In any such project the datasets must be carefully checked to ensure similar data fields can be matched and any comparisons made are valid and meaningful.
