Participation

Who participates?

The National Cardiac Arrest Audit (NCAA) is open to NHS and non-NHS acute hospitals in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, and welcomes enquiries from international hospitals. A list of participating hospitals is available at the bottom of the page.

Why participate?

NCAA is the only national clinical audit of in-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK and Ireland, and the NHS England Quality Accounts List recommends Trusts participate.

Benefits of participation include:

  • standardised rules, definitions and extensive quality checking to ensure meaningful benchmarking against peers
  • risk-adjusted comparative reports on two key outcomes: return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) greater than 20 minutes; and survival to hospital discharge (see example NCAA report below)
  • highlighting of areas for improvement and successes in the delivery of care
  • an abundance of resources including manuals, webinars, training workshops and a team of dedicated Data Coordinators
